'None 4 Under 21' is April 17 at Hiram College
Apr 16, 2018The program will be held at Hiram College from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for approximately 1,800 high school seniors from Portage County and neighboring school districts. The students will learn about choices and consequences through mock scenes and presentations, and the program also includes a "Walk of Remembrance" with 11 area families honoring their loved ones killed in traffic crashes. "With the many dangers facing our society today, injuries or deaths caused by impaired and distracted driving are senseless tragedies, and we can all do our part to prevent them," said Arthur Elk, managing member of Elk & Elk. "By providing our continued support for 'None 4 Under 21,' Elk & Elk encourages teens to make good decisions so their lives and the lives of others remain safe on our roadways." "The goal is to reduce preventable teenage-at-fault traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities with our focus on safety during prom and graduation season," said Lynette Blasiman, Project Director of Portage County Safe Communities. The program, emceed by Elk & Elk Managing Partner Jay Kelley, include speakers who will share their personal life experiences with choices and consequences: Marc Streem, a bereaved father, who lost his son at the age of fourteen when he died from a crash; Aaron Cooksey, who killed his best friend in an alcohol-related traffic crash; and an Ohio inmate, currently serving a prison sentence for aggravated vehicular homicide, drunk driving and leaving the scene of a crash. This year’s other "None 4 Under 21 and Choices Beyond" sponsors are: Troopers for a Safer Ohio, Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, Gateway Towing, Hughie’s Event Production Services, the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office, Portage Marble and Granite, Family & Community Services Phyllis Zumekehr County Clothing Center and University Hospitals Portage Medical Center.
